how many types of turbulence an aircraft may usually encounter

mechanical turbulence


 

airflow disruption over obstructions examples buildings and hills.

usually affect the aircraft at low levels.


mountain waves or 

airflow around mountains ranges ,that causes turbulence


wake turbulence

turbulence caused by large aircrafts.

wingtips of aircraft creates vortices.

aircraft traffic control usually help in dealing with this kind of turbulence.


convective turbulence

usually happens near thunderstorms


clear air turbulence

it can occur in clear air.

medium to high altitudes.

can create jetstreams.
